August 2, 2015 3:30 pmtoSeptember 12, 2015 10:00 pm

The September 6th dance & workshop will be held in West Seattle at the Alki Masonic Lodge with DJ Robb Bryan.

Sunday’s Location:  4736 40th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98116

Instructor: Claire Carey
Workshop Descriptions: 4:00:

West Coast is known for it’s creativity and connection, but sometimes it can get a little dicey when we come up with ideas on the fly! We’re going to take a look at why those miscommunication happen, find new ways to give follows a clear voice while making sure leads can hear it, and use different exits and entrances to our favorite moves to make awesome new moments. If you’ve been feeling like you’ve been stuck having the same dances every night, this will help shake things loose

5:00:Ever felt like those super slow, groovy songs don’t feel like swing anymore?  In this workshop, we’ll explore ways to make your timing feel crisp and creative even when things get positively glacial.  We’ll use timing-malleable moves to find ways to dance  to both half and whole time, and find new styling opportunities we might not have yet considered in those juicy in between moments!  70 beats per minute will feel like a breeze.  Late night, here we come…

Between some of our Step-by-Step classes we offer a FREE practice dance.
The class is mainly for those students in our class, however we do welcome anyone who would like to attended FREE of charge.

This is a practice dance so most of the music will be medium tempoish (there likely won’t be many songs that are either too fast or too slow for most experienced dancers)

FREE dances are DJed by various people

We do ask a few things from all attendees:
1)  Teaching on the dance floor is never acceptable, but especially here.  Students are part of the Step by Step class and a learning a specific curriculum.  The curriculum is not necessarily the same as you have experienced (even previous step by step classes).  It’s best to just let them practice their side passes, whips and push breaks and let any corrections happen either in class or by an instructor.
2)  These are students in a class, they may have issues trying to follow your 18 count whip with back flip into cartwheel finishing with the splits.  These students are learning basics.  If you know to how to lead something cool and they think its cool, awesome, but please don’t scare them.
3)  West Coast Swing is a social dance, be nice and have fun

Schedule of FREE dances:

West Coast Swing, Step-by-Step is the instructional series developed specifically to provide the Seattle dance community with a step-by-step curriculum for West Coast Swing dancing.

These classes will give you an introduction to partnering, technique and the foundational patters of West Coast Swing. Four levels of classes are offered throughout the year by the area’s most qualified and accomplished professional instructors; Lynn Gross, Jim Minty, Katie Schneider, and Nancy Clark. At all levels, this series is perfect for the beginning dancer and also the more experienced dancer needing a brush-up on the basics.
