This 1½ hour class will cover some of the common changes Champions make in a dance — even through their Basics —
that take the overall appearance up a level! Learn how to make simple moves more dynamic!

Note: WSDC points required for this leveled workshop. Must be WSDC Intermediate/Advanced/All-Star to attend this class.

4:00 Adanced Basics & Techniques for All Levels:
Let’s get serious about Technique! We have so many fun elements to this dance, but none of it matters without a foundation.
This will not be a Basics Intro to WCS…we will be taking it up a notch.

5:15 Jordan and Tatiana’s Signature Moves:
Come learn some of our signature moments from current and past routines.
These are taught to be danced in a social setting, and all lead and follow.

6:30 Dinner Buffet and Q&A with Jordan and Tatiana.

8:00 Control Your Movement, Not Your Partner:
Moving our bodies is not just for the followers. Everyone is dancing more.
Let’s make sure we know how to do that with our partner and also on our own.

9:00 – 1:00 am DANCE with DJ April Prince
From Chicago, Global Dance Hall of Fame DJ, April Prince will be playing music to keep you dancing non-stop, Open Jack & Jill, AND everybody dances with Jordan or Tatiana!

Sunday, August 2nd Alki Masonic Lodge:  4736 40th Ave SW Seattle, WA 98116

3:30 Bending, Shaping, Styling:
Our dance is in a slot, and unlike all other styles of swing, West Coast stands upright.
That doesn’t mean we can’t have fun bending the slot, creating new angles and lines, and playing with the misconceptions of posture!

4:45 Modern Musicality:
There are many facets to musicality in West Coast Swing.
We will cover the “not so talked about” elements that seem to be helping current competitive dancers. Don’t miss out!

Workshops
Instructors: Andy Vanosdale and Faith Musko
Workshop Descriptions: 4:00 PM: Let’s Get Physic(al)
West Coast Swing is all about human physics and motion: for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.  We’ll apply techniques to different patterns and variations that will make every lead and follow get the smile on their partner’s face!

5:00 PM: (Wo)Man in the Mirror
Leads and follows have a responsibility to give their partners the best dance possible!  Adding on the “Let’s Get Physic(al)”, each side will take turns to listen to and feel the connection telling them what’s happening.  This will give you focus and allow you to respond to the connection much easier for a more connected dance.

Between some of our Step-by-Step classes we offer a FREE practice dance.
The class is mainly for those students in our class, however we do welcome anyone who would like to attended FREE of charge.

This is a practice dance so most of the music will be medium tempoish (there likely won’t be many songs that are either too fast or too slow for most experienced dancers)

FREE dances are DJed by various people

We do ask a few things from all attendees:
1)  Teaching on the dance floor is never acceptable, but especially here.  Students are part of the Step by Step class and a learning a specific curriculum.  The curriculum is not necessarily the same as you have experienced (even previous step by step classes).  It’s best to just let them practice their side passes, whips and push breaks and let any corrections happen either in class or by an instructor.
2)  These are students in a class, they may have issues trying to follow your 18 count whip with back flip into cartwheel finishing with the splits.  These students are learning basics.  If you know to how to lead something cool and they think its cool, awesome, but please don’t scare them.
3)  West Coast Swing is a social dance, be nice and have fun

Schedule of FREE dances:
May 18th, 2015 (after level 3)
August 10th, 2015 (after level 2)

West Coast Swing, Step-by-Step is the instructional series developed specifically to provide the Seattle dance community with a step-by-step curriculum for West Coast Swing dancing.

These classes will give you an introduction to partnering, technique and the foundational patters of West Coast Swing. Four levels of classes are offered throughout the year by the area’s most qualified and accomplished professional instructors; Lynn Gross, Jim Minty, Katie Schneider, and Nancy Clark. At all levels, this series is perfect for the beginning dancer and also the more experienced dancer needing a brush-up on the basics.
